Apollo Missions at NASA
The mission of the Apollo spacecraft series was to establish technology to meet other national interests in space, to achieve preeminence in space for the United States, and carry out programs of scientific exploration of the moon and to help develop humankind's capabilities to work in the lunar environment.
Gemini Missions at NASA
The Gemini Missions were the first missions to carry two men into space. It served as a necessary bridge between the Apollo Missions and the Mercury Missions.
Mercury Missions at NASA
Project Mercury was the first national space flight. It spanned six historic missions into space from 1961 until 1963. The main project goals were to orbit a manned spacecraft around the earth, investigate humankind's ability to function in space, and to recover both humans and spacecraft safely.
Soviet Vostok spacecraft
The Vostok spacecraft was the first vehicle to carry a human into space, Yuri A. Gargarin, and was launched 58 days prior to the first United States suborbital flight (April 12, 1961 launch).
